I recently purchased a nice size bromeliad w/flowering in center and later was given another that is growing tall, w/what looks like a flower that won't open, growing straight upwards. Will this plant flower/bloom?, and any basic info. on bromeliads would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Kenny! There are different types of bromeliads, some whose flowers open cascade-like, and others that get just a flat flower on a spike that never opens. They like indirect sun and water in their crown-water it from the top of the plant and let the water cascade down to the bottom. Good luck!
