could anybody please tell me why do my pears start growing well then as they begin to grow over 1 inch they start looking woody soon after this happens the develop splits.thanks in anticipation for your help.

Sounds like Pear Scab or some sort of Corky fungal problem. Try spraying with some sort of bacterial spray. Take a visit to a Nursery nearby and see what they sell to eliminate the problem. Id be willing to bet you see that problem after wet periods, which is when most fungal problems occur. Sulfur spray may be a remedy, but prob should be done after the fruit sets.

Thanks I shall visit my local nursery for some bacterial spray and give it a go tommorow [Smile]
