Hi All,
Has anyone got a good pic of golden rod? I am in the second year of this plant and although it has gotten quite large, I am disappointed with the flower. I though it was feathery and it is not really great blooming at all.

Hi Weezie,

I bought them last year from a mail order house. Last year they were very sparse and leggy. This year they exploded with growth but somehow I expected more plumage.

I know there are several varieties of them..
Some have a big heavy top plume,
some have a grouping of starbursts type flowers..
Some have long thin stems with flowers going up it..

Mine are just starting to bloom here,
but with the rain now, not sure how good of a
shot I'll get of them..

Did you have a picture of the kind you got??

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!

There are different ones out there.I like the 4th july sparkler.its about 3-4 ft and I bet is the one you'd like.it branches out usually 3 branches.I keept just the tall ones this year and they bloom later this month.they get 8-9 ft tall.you may want to search wildflower calalogs out or heriloom plants(I'm reading a book right now on the history of heirloom gardening covers from 1600-1950.Called"The heirloom garden"by Jo ann Gardner)

Shani,
I see it around me as a weed too. I originally thought about borrowing some from Mother Nature along with a few other eye appealing wild flowers until I heard it can be against the law. It certainly is invasive though and I will be moving it to another area in the fall. I am sure next year I will still have new sprouts to contend with. From July through August there are so many wild flowers in bloom and I was even going to borrow some seed pods from these areas but many are protected and I guess that is for a good reason. For now I can only admire from a far.
