Do I stand any chance of getting rid of bindweed w/o nuking it with chemicals?

I pulled it all when we moved in, then laid down thick sheets of newspaper, and/or cardboard, then layered it with composting materials, then 6 or more inches of finished compost.

IIIIITTTT'SSSSSS BBBAAAAAACCCCKKKK!!!!!!!!!! [Eek!]

Not only that, now it's also traveling into my yard.

I pull EVERYDAY...no joke...every last piece I see, but it doesn't seem to be slowing it down ANY!!!

Anybody got any ideas? [thinker]
