Hello everyone! I need some ideas of a hardy plant zone6 Ohio that would really stand out in a shade area that may get some sun but not much? I already have hosta's japanese painted fern so I thought something that is either purple or darker would be nice but I do not have any ideas myself so really could use some help here?Or it could be spikes like leaves that is in the purple color area?Rita

Here are various plants/ flowers to grow in your shady zone 6... not all purple but just some ideas:

Red Chokeberry (Aronia Arbutifolia.) White flowers with red berries.

Chelone oblique. These are a baby pink and grow best in semi-shade.

Illumination Commom Periwinkle. Pale blue with yellow- green leaf.

Girard's Rose Azalea. How can I forget- these are a intense, beautiful red.

Camellia japonica 'Spring's Promise' in particular. Red.

English Roseum Rhododendron- here's the purple your looking for.

Luxuriant Fringed Bleeding Heart. Red'ish pink.

Purple Gem Rhododenron. Dense shrub but ideal to "take up space". Another purple to consider.

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!
