Rose of Sharon prefers sun to part shade, but usually blooms best in full sun. They also like good drainage. After it blooms, the seed will form where the bloom was. They actually have a bad reputation for reseeding in the landscape.

Sassy I have had my white one and a purp[le one now for 2 years bloom great but so far no seeds. I keep as close a watch for them as I can. If there is some secret I would like to know it. Alan one of mine is in full morning and part afternoon sun the Other is in full sun from noon on.

I've grown 2 types of ROS.When I grew my double flowered one it did not set any seed.My blue bird ROS does.It sets seed at end of season where the flowers bloomed. They will actually look like a bloom bud,but splits open to reveal seeds.
