could they be japanese beelte cocoons? I found some when I dug in my lily patch

I tried looking on the internet for information on the japanese beetle, but I could not find a picture of one in the cocoon.  But, that sounds like what it might be.  ![[Wink]](im/wink.gif)

Japanese beetles lay eggs and as far as I know don't have cocoons, do you mean Larvae? White grubs?

The things that I found in the ground were red and hard and looked like a cocoon.  When I stepped on one, yellowish green stuff oozed out.  I did not find any this year when I was digging in my flowerbeds.
