I'd unpot it and check the roots, stem base, ... Cut back to firm, healthy tissue, and let it sit unpotted for a week or so to heal over. Yes, it feels weird to have an unpotted plant lying on your shelf (out of direct sun) but if you had rot, it needs this treatment. Then, get some quick draining soil and an unglazed terracotta pot, if it was in plastic. Do NOT reuse the soil it came out of for anything. If it was in a clay pot and you want to reuse it, toss the dirt and throw the pot through the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent contains bleach. If you don't have a dishwasher, don't use sink soap (nothing bad will happen, but it won't sterilize the pot), spray it with some diluted bleach, let it dry a day or so, then rinse. Pot the plant up in the new soil, new or cleaned pot, and let it be for another day or so before watering. Then water, move it slowly back to full sun, and you should get new growth in a week or so. Let us know what you find when you unpot it.
