I have a large oak tree in my yard along with quite a few others including a large cedar and a couple pine. There is ivy growing up from the trunks of the trees, and in some all the way up into the branches....I am afraid this will eventually "choke" them. Is there anything I can do or buy to get rid of this annoying ivy without hurting the trees or the ground around them?

waht i usually do when i have "choking" vines is just cut the vines off at the base of the tree, not worrying about what has already climed. that will die off naturally when you cut it at the base. then, you can paint the cut parts with something like "brush be gone" but you have to use a paint brush and paint only the cut parts of the plant you want dead. tedius, but it works.
