Hi guys! I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has offered advice, or kind words of hope in those dire bow-tie vine moments! LOL. Recently I finished the exterior of my house, with the garden really on it's way, and I wanted to share the progress with you. I'm really thrilled with the way it came out. I am posting the first two (before, and during) now, and I'll have to post the most recent "After" later. I thought I had a good photo of it with me at work, but I don't. So i'll try to get it on here by tomorrow at the latest. You can see a pretty significant difference just from these two photos though.

I'm having issues uploading with the UBB code thing, so I'll just give you the links. Hopefully they work.

I think the red tree is in the neighbors yard. And it's there in the second pic it just isn't blooming. I see you got rid of the watercress. Did you have alot of salads? Or did it all go in the compost heap?

Thanks for the praise! It's been SOOO much work. And yes, my spouse and I (with the help of my father) put in the pathway, and leveled the ground out in the yard area (we also built the decks on the far end of the photo.) We're REALLY tired.

The "red bloom" is a small Bottlebrush tree which we think spawned from the enormous one in the neighbors yard (which is mostly out of frame.) The nastertiums are mostly all gone...I'm not terribly sad about it though. They are pretty, but took over everything and actually choked out an apricot tree that was 3/4 dead when we started the project - it's gone now.

I took a photo from the opposite end of the path this morning.

We literally JUST finished re-painting the house last week. I'm SO Happy it's done now!

WOW! That's great! Congratulations!! How did you do the trim along the sides of the walk? Is it pressure treated cedar 2x4s? Is it 'molded' to the slight slope of the walk, or were the boards bowed just right???

wow, thanks for all the kind words everyone! I love the space now. It was a total mess before, hopefully this will be an inspiration for other people who think they can't do it. YOU CAN!

I wish I had a word that's bigger than awesome, superb, outta' sight - but that's all I can think of to say also.

Darn nice work there. And sometimes designing your landscaping to show the beauty of neighbouring trees is just as good as growing them yourself.

Our walkway looks out onto a garden across the road and the green on each side frames it.

One of our tenants argued with me last year that I had red flowers down there.

I couldn't get it through her head that the part of the lot she was talking about is too shady for planting red flowers, zinnias or the like. She kept saying, where are they? I don't think she realized that what she had been seeing when she went down the walk was the garden across the road.

It works for her, I guess - it works for me.
