I'm slightly behind in about EVERYTHING garden wise this year.My veggie bed is not even been touched(Well...I did pull things up and pile them about a month or so ago& have removed the fenceing& mater stakes.I got seeds sprouted(pumpkin/cucumber/canelope/other pumpkin/zuccini/squash)

I need someone to tell me what size containers to grow my pumpkins in.I have 3 choices unless raid Meldas again. Qt pots/3 gallon pots/and a few spare milk jugs. And when garden is ready could I just SINK the entire pot???? [dunno] The pumpkins that have sprouted are a sugar type& jackolantern(10-15 lbs?)
Can I grow cukes in container and set in front of a fence and grow them that way?in a qt pot? I'm thinking of setting bench in duckpen and place plants on them to grow on fence& grow my lettuce in shade under the bench.

and lastly....don't cuckes or zucinni or squash cross pollinate with something you don't want?I can't find my veggie book.I bought the book to help me& done lost it(old book...growing gold organicanicly from the 60s,mostly bout companion planting, but went into stuff about about the garden as well)

I'd use the biggest pots available for pumpkin and other cucurbit plants. They have a vigoorous root system. Don't put the pot in the ground. If you want to do that, i'd suggest you grow them in a hessian bag or similar, so it will break down when you put it in the soil. If it starts to fall apart before you're ready to plant it out, put a second bag on it.

Cucumber will handle a tub or container very well as long as they don't dry out. On a fence would be perfect.

Some cucurbits can cross pollinate, so if you want true to type you need to keep these plants apart, but hey, if you get a cross of 2 pumpkin is it a problem? If so, keep them away from each other. You won't get , for example, cucumbers and pumpkin cross pollinating. Or squash and watermelons , but same species can cross, like pumpkin to pumpkin. If you want to keep the seed as true to type, you'll need to segregate the plants by a pretty good distance. I usually just let 'em go and see what i end up with inless i want the seed.

Well.We have these freezer paper bags at the store that are like 2 ply.I think they'd be about the right size.I will try those for the pumpkins. My Growing area beside garden shed is where was gonna grow out a pot of zuccini& grow on the fence.I can grow the pot in more shade& train the vine towards the sunny area.I knew I had to watch the cuke crossing or the fruit would not be right,I just couldn't rember what& I still ain't found that book.but while it was raining today I was weeding& removeing leaves from beds.My tomatoes have flowers& one zuccini will soon& need to be back outside not here...lol

You better get a move on on allllllllll those seeds..(wink~wink)
Has Debra started her supply??

Hey how come stuff's going in containers???

All of those pumpkins can go in the ground and sprawl on stuff...Get some of that cheap rabbit fencing like I did, and make an arch out of it..
This one here has the cucumbers on it...
just clip the vertical lines, one both ends, and leave the horizontal one's, and it will give you spikes like to poke into the ground...
 -
That fencing was quite reasonable at Tractor Supply and I did several projects with it...

Here's the two poles and the fencing for acorns squash...
 -
Here's the peas in a bucket they use for like parties and putting ice in and serving pop/beer from???? Also has same type of fencing...

Well...I haven't had TIME to even TOUCH the veggie bed from last year. All I did was grab some of the tomater stakes...and I did take down a section of fenceing. My ducks are in the garden area now actually.I may get buster to run over here with his lawn mower. He has a garden attachment.I may have him till me a line along the fences.hubby wouldn't notice it till the weekend anyway...unless his mother told on me... [Big Grin]

I've potted 2 tomato plants
4 cabbage
1 squash
1 zuccini
And I've GOT TO DO SOMETHING with the pumpkins,cukes,zuccini....cause they've sprouted and time to transplant...like thursday of last week.
I've also bought my 6 pack of cherry tomatoes for the 4 gallon hanging pot& will add banana peppers to it.
And yes...you should see the seedlings sprouted...most of the cups are up& most are ready to seperate into larger pots or inground.
My yards as bad as my house& then still have seeds to sow to boot.I really need 90 hour days& booze to keep me up not passed out.. [Roll Eyes] and If i'd leave that dam playstaion 2 alone...I wouldn't be in bed at 2 am and I'd WANT to get up in the morning...lol
I gotta go mow..its growing as we speak& I just mowed last week and will be hot today& I wanna go fishing.
JMG are doing well.I'm getting new sprouts daily& least I done filled them 24 hanging baskets.I should have blooms in May sometime. [muggs] [clappy]
