What zone are you in?
Did the flowers have a tg or wrapper stating a zone on them?
I'm in zone 5 and just mulch the whole flower bed and my daylilies come back every year. I'm not positive of the asiatic types, but I think you'd do the same.

I'm in zone 6 and have quite a few asiatic lilies.....I don't even do a heavy mulch over them and they always come back just fine here. Just make sure you let the foliage die back to the ground---and don't cut it down yourself.

i do a heavy layer of leaves in the fall...i've never had a problem with any of my bulbs (even the glads which ARE supposed to be taken out in the fall).
