I'm guessing that this is a houseplant as I don't know where Appleton is. You don't give us much info to go on here, but what has changed in the environment? Was this outdoors and you brought it in? When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
