Hi the resturant down the road has these cactuses out front of their place. And today one of the fruits had fallen off so I picked it up. Are the seeds inside this part?

Tammy if your talking about a Prickly Pear that is called the apple you roast that and eat it. From what I understand the seeds are in the bloom. I am not an expert although I have been around them all my life. We also cook the leaves they are real good and almost pure sugar.

so I missed the seeds huh? Ok, well it was just a thought. I don't have much luck getting them to sprout anyway lol. Thank you for the information Jimmy.

The seeds are in the round part which is the fruit, If you cut it open you will see the seeds. They are lined up like in a cucumber.

Thanks Comfery I never knew that being raised in the New Mexico desert we always had plenty and like I said we eat them. Roast the apple and use the leaf in several recipes.

comfrey - I was wondering... I have an area of prickly pear cacti that has frozen over, but they still have the fruit tops on them - would the seeds still be viable after having been out in the freezing temps here?
