If you're still adding to it
*or were up until yesterday*
I'd leave it sit and turn it a few more times..
but let it work and start a new one..
*if you don't have the room for it,
take out all the compost you've got now,
fill it in black or dark HEAVY DUTY garbage bags,
and let them sit somewhere's out of the way over the next season and then use maybe in spring time..

Then re~start to fill your bin back up..

A couple years? It will never be completely finished if youcontinue to add to it. You should have plenty of finished material at the bottom of the pile. Stop adding to it and start another pile. Keep turning the old pile once a week or so until it fails to heat up and then you can use it.

weezie n johnct
my bin is 8ft long by 4ft wide, and 4ft high!
i cant get in there to turn it,
not only that it would kill my back [Eek!]
i think i need plan B.
ive got another 8x4 bin next to it, that i was going to start soon. think i will just leave it for storage now.
Princess, ive got slugs n snails too.
i dont mind them in the bin, but i lay plenty of slug pellets around it, ready for when they want to move house! [lala]

I do too, it's been a slug fest the last two weeks, hugggggggggggeeeeeeeeee ones' too...
I splat them between two bricks, and i tell you, it's messy...but fun to get your aggressions out on...

If you have them in your bin, I'd see if it were tooooo moist...
What's the water level like near the pile?

I have only noticed a couple of slugs and thought "Should I have these in" and would these do anything to the compost pile.

I don't think it's too moist. But there and again we do have alot more rain. But I will be putting slug pellets around my bin!

Slugs believe it or not are actually good
breaker~downer guys for stuff...

But for me, I don't encourage them cause they
multiply like rabbits and they aren't discrimatory enough to go between just the dead/brown stuff and the tender new growth of plants [Mad] [Frown]

Slugs are good for nothing but devouring my hostas and lettuce. Every one I see meets their maker. Take my advice and do the same.
