This is patches 1414 from Illinois (right across the river from St. Louis), and I am in zone 5. I've been gardening for many years, but most of that was just planting some vegetables, shrubs, bushes, and lots of annuals. Several years ago a new neighbor suggested I plant some perennials next to my fence. When I asked her where at, she said, "all along the fence". So I invested in a mini-tiller and started playing in the dirt and I felt like a kid again! Then when her mother would visit she would brings me starts from her garden and I was addicted. I couldn't believe perennials had escaped my attention all those years.
I teach Psychology at the college here in town. Besides gardening & landscaping, I love animals, birds, and anything that gets me outdoors. I also have a new love in my life!!! This past October someone rang my doorbell at 1:35.a.m., and when I got up there was no one there, but I could hear heard crying. When I opened the door there were two baby kittens in a shoebox that didn't even have their eyes open yet. So I raised them until they were off the bottle, then I gave one to a friend and I kept "Boogie Bear" for myself. He's a real sweetheart and the love of my life! Okay, enough said, this is me in a nutshell!
I'm really looking forward to learning a lot from other gardeners and sharing what I know.
HAVE A GREAT DAY! Patches1414

Hi there and welcome to the forum How fortunate for those little kittens that someone chose just the right person to raise them! Good for you! We've got many animal rescuers here too! Currently I've got an adorable grey kitten named Nikko that I'm "watching" for a teenager that doesn't have a home that accepts cats.

Welcome to the forum and a blessing on your head for rescuing those kitties. Many years ago I was the recipient of a puppy and a year later two kittens in the same way. The dog "nursed" the kittens. Was running a group home and I guess the neighbors thought if I rescued people I must also want animals. Certainly gave us some terrific stories.
You will find terrific information and some good friends here.
