Hi everyone, I've found this forum by googling to find out whats wrong with my poor spider plant!

I'm not very good with plants in general (mainly due to forgetfulness in watering them) and don't have a garden thats mine yet so am trying to learn to be better with the houseplants.

I have two beautiful spider plants in separate rooms, one that has no babies yet and was started off in the bathroom (old family tip for some reason that usually makes them grow like mad, guessing the moisture in the air and the heat from the long baths!) and one with babies that has swapped places to the bathroom for now.

Lately I've noticed several small flies around it. Googling around this site would suggest that they are fungus gnats except that there are no white larvae to be seen, but the surface is teeming with small dark grey - black crawling things that don't fly off. The spider plant seems to cope with them but they turn my stomach.

Any help gratefully received and apologies for introducing myself with a problem!

Hi badkitti..welcome to the forum, we are so glad to have you here.

You may be able to solve your problem a little quicker if you zip down to the HOUSEPLANTS thread...I know there are some discussions and pic there dealing with different spider plant problems.

It may "appear" that the plant is dealing with them..but they are probably killing the root system and if not treated you will wake up to a brown spider plant. jump on down to house plants...because I am by no means a pro...but you can get tons of pros to help you here!
