well today I planted some sweet chocolate and some grand bell, mixed color peppers and some roma, tiny tim and grape tomatoes. I have my fingers crossed that they all come up.

And mentioning that I have to say that the celosia and the coral bell have finally sprouted. I hope they both grow well.

I walked around the garden today just to take a look and the daffodils, crocuses, tulips, ornamental onions and miniature roses are all comming up with new growth.

Needless to say I've got the itch to get out there but it's still to cold to be planting anything outside. The compost pile has broken down quite a bit and as soon as it warms up I'll probably get out there and move things around. But for right now it's a bit nippy lol.

I do know that next month I'll be spending my money on mortar and a trowel so I can build that brick edging for the third tier. That's going to be so great. I've been patiently waiting since last fall to do this and I think I can do it come March if the weather doesn't get to wet. Well that's all for now. Happy planting.

Tammy, Keep me posted on how yours are doing??
I've tried to grow the colored one's *all assorted, red, yellow, purple, orange, etc..* and I haven't had great success with them..
Got some, on some, small tiny one's on others, I grow them for my oldest, he loves to look at the colors, but not having much luck, I wonder if I should keep trying..
Would love to hear your outcome of them...

Well the seeds for the multi-colored ones are a couple of years old so I'm not holding out a bunch of hope but can't hurt to try right? I'm thinking I'll do the same with the peppers that I plan to do with the tomatoes. i.e. lots of compost in their beds lol.

I'll definitely be posting their progress in this string. I love watching everything grow.

The tiny tim were a present from Phoenix and I really look forward to having them sprout because they will remind me of him all through the summer and fall. Hopefully this year when I top the tomatoes I can keep them going all winter long and I'll have really great plants next year. Not that I'm counting my chicks before they are hatched lol.

Oh Tammy, I'm so jealous. You say it's a bit "nippy" there...I only wish it was just a bit nippy here. I still have quite the wait, though my seeds should be in any day now..maybe even today. I can't wait. I know I'll be staring at them for another 2 months...I don't know about you but when I was a kid and I got a new gift, I use to bring it to bed with me 'cuz I was so excited over it! My boyfriend teases me that we will be sharing the bed with all my seed packets. [Big Grin]

Good luck Tammy...love reading your posts!

[Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] That is so funny Christina, but I can relate, When my ordered seeds arrived I had to take them out and shuffle them around quite a few times before I finally put them in my seed box, Of course then I had to get the seed box out and shuffle through it several times. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
Hmmmmm [teacher] I think the seed box is due for another shuffling of the seeds. [Embarrassed]

WTG Loz, hey Christina I can relate.

Yes when new seeds come in I have to log them on my have list, build a plant profile for them add them to my germination table and then lovingly put them in my alphabetized seed drawer. That doesn't sound OCD does it? lol.

Well today I just moved things around rather than planting anything so I don't really have anything to add but as soon as I figure out some space I want to do a mixed pot of cleome's. I'm going to be keeping them in a pot outside because of their watering requirements. But right now I don't have any space for them.

I started a bunch of pepper, cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli seeds yesterday. And some lettuce. Today I did my seed inventory and ordered all my seeds. I just had a short list, but by the time I made it through the catalog, it had more than doubled! Like a kid in a candy store! [dunno]

I also planted 10 seeds of corn as a test germination to see if the seed was still good.

Hey I was just talking to my dad today about lettuce...he plants it most years. He said to make sure you don't sow too many seeds at once...to stagger the sowing out so you don't have all of your lettuce ready to eat the same week....

That's something I never really though much about.... [Big Grin]

lol so far I haven't even gotten one head to maturity so that hasn't been a concern yet. Hope I have that problem someday.

Now I'm back at the 4 season garden thing. I know I'm absolutely crazy on this subject. But someday I want a garden that is full of blooms all the time. Or at least as much of it as possible. My back is killing me at the moment though because of all the computer research involved. I've really got to get up and move around.

TK, my yard has something in bloom almost all year. It's not in one area but with spring bulbs, summer annuals, and pansys and camelias for winter, something is always blooming. Do you plant zinnias (Cindy's favorite)? They bloom until October here.

PS - Daphne a dora's bloom in February and smell delicious.

Wow, someday when I can drive again. Maybe I'll drive by your place on a weekend so I can see all the veggies doing their thing. I'm chicken to try the lettuce again lol.

I did do a walk by the garden this morning and more daffodils and crocuses are comming up. And the miniature snapdragons are still hanging in there. But the weather has started to get colder and now they are saying 6 to 12 inches of snow so I think they are in trouble. I hope this doesn't kill the miniature roses that have started to put on this years foliage.

Just finished up my planting for today. I planted thyme, bok choy, Italian Black Bell eggplant, Sweet Thai basil, Superdukat dill, Italian Large Leaf basil, Spicy Bush basil, and celery leaf, cilantro, and Serrano peppers. The bok choy, celery leaf, and dill are several years (or more)old, we'll see if they're still good. I had planted my peppers a couple of weeks ago, but the only ones to come up were my Giant Thai Hot and what I thought was one serrano. My plant room was too cold though, it finally discovered it was getting down into the low 50s at night. One of the windows was open about an inch or so at the top. I guess it's probably been open since July. I lower the 2 windows in that room to evacuate some of the hot air while pulling in cooler air from the opposite side of my house. What I initially though was going to be a serrano turned out to be a tomato???? Must have been a stray seed.

I also potted up 6 tomato seedlings today into 4 inch nursery liners.

I'm so sorry to hear about your seedlings. Are you going to replant Terry?

that's cool to know where everyone here in Va are located from me. Now I just need that vehicle and a map lol. Have to do it before July when my drivers license runs out lol.

I already have. I've turned the heat on in that room also. It gemerally keeps the temperature in the mid to upper 70s which is near optimum for peppers, so I'm hoping to see signs of germination in 4 or 5 more days. My lettuce and cabbage and broccoli are exploding out of the soil and I think I see signs of the cauliflower.

That's exciting. Pretty much everything I've planted has come up. The love lies bleeding is so hard to water because the seedlings are spindly. I'm not sure if they are going to make it but I keep trying.

I had no idea that the garlic seeds would pop up that quickly. Now I'm wondering where I can stash them until Spring arrives lol. I've got plants on every square inch of space around the house. It looks like the dinning room table is going to have to be covered with a plastic tablecloth and the shop light lowered if I want to get anything else started lol. I still have many many plants to start. I wish my roommate was spending Febuary in Florida like he thought he was going to. I could really use the space about now. Oh well the money is welcome.

Tammy..how are you watering them? I've grown many flowers that are so tender so I know what you mean but I found that if I just use a fine mist spray bottle, they tolerate it quite well.

Sounds like you have quite the greenhouse going on in there!! Your house must feel so alive..wish I could see it!!

the mist bottle is a mess because the egg carton cardboard and the peatmoss absorb the water faster than I can spray it. So I've resorted to pouring the water down the edges of the cardboard spikes between depressions. This is nerve racking I'll tell you but it's the best I've been able to come up with so far lol. Bet that sounds wierd doesn't it.

Actually almost all of the plants are in the window enclosures with just a few exceptions. I know having them there courts drafts but it's either that or wait and sow everything outside and I don't want to do that because then I wouldn't see half of this stuff until halfway through summer.

The new shelf I bought awhile back is going to work out just fine, I got a shop light out and attached it to one of the shelves, and I love the way it is going to work! Now I need to find a way to get two more of these shelves and I will have a neater and more compact seed starting area, but that may not happen this season, So I will use the old setup which is four shop lights hanging from the ceiling over home made tables ( boards placed on double stacked 5 gallon buckets) But the extra shelf gives me 6 lights total instead of 4 which I struggled with last year, But it will still be crowded, as I am starting alot more flowers then I did last year. I reworked my garden lay out on paper and made a new seed starting list to include all the flowers, So all that is left is to sterilize all of my seed flats etc, and I am ready to get on with seed starting, even though I am still a few more weeks away. I even set up a notebook to record everything into, and I am going to try and transfer all my notes daily into a real journal book. [flower] Can you tell I can't hardly wait to get started? [flower]

Well I organized them today, so I am not sure. I use DH storage room for his junk to start my seeds in and I am just dieing to get in there and set things up, but I don't want to kick him out of there yet. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Once I start seeds he is bared from coming in there except under supervision. [Big Grin]

Wow that is great Loz...I know how excited you must be about the new setup you are getting built. When I attached one of my lights to my new shelves DH said he was too tied to help me, so I should wait...But when he saw I was going to do it anyway he got up and helped.

Tammy, Next time you hit a store with a pharmacy, ask them for a syringe liek we use to give babies meds. I am using that to water my seedlings and AV's. Just get a coffee cup with water and give each seedling a shot of water. You can get teh stream right next to the dirt so it works great for me!

Well I could probably buy an eye dropper. I just hadn't thought of it. That would help alot I think. Thank you for the suggestion. Today I've just been moving the plants around again lol. I'm trying to get all the shade plants that have sprouted out east facing windows and into the north facing ones. I keep hoping I can make more room for other starters lol. As if I need to be starting more plants. Well I guess I just need to be patient.
