(ok . . . so I did get a little bit of help from Jeff . . .)
This is the stump I've been blathering about. I truly did not think there would be roots going straight down . . . but there were - around 11:30 a.m. today I had it to the point where I could wiggle the thing.
Jeff came home from shopping and said 'I'll betcha' there's nore root to cut . . . it took him about 3/4 of an hour, then I chipped in at the end and we got her out!
That is the worst job on the lot for this year's gardening and I have it out of the way.
Home of my new juniper cuttings!
(I'll spend the rest of the week cleaning it all up out there)

Carly, Congrats on getting rid of that stump. that is one of the worst things about gardening, in my opinion, having to remove stumps!

Now, you have had a small taste of what our Forefathers went through many, many years ago when they were trying to clear land so that they could grow their crops and such.
I've dug out a few stumps before and it is NOT easy work. I'm glad I don't have to do it in order to have a place to raise food to feed my family or cattle!! But, there IS something good that comes from all that effort. Every time you go out and look at your new Junipers, you will remember the hard work and persistance you have put in. And because of all of the self-investment, you will appreciate that particular spot even more!!
Good luck with the Juniper cuttings!

That's great Carly...It's not fun trying to get them out. Actually we had a blue spruce that we cut down and instead of digging the stump up we leveled it down and put a raised bed overtop of it.... Sort of cheating, but WAY easier.
