Hi. I live in North Dakota. My husband farms and I am a medical transcriptionist. We have 2 boys, almost 9 and 3. I spend my time chasing them, my husband in the field, and working full-time as a transcriptionist from my home. My husband keeps telling me to get a hobby because all I do is work, so last year I dug up 1000 square feet of yard in the front of my garage and deck and planted many, many, many bulbs and roots! We have had a VERY dry spring/summer, some of them didn't even grow, but I have been keeping very busy adding this and that. I even made a dry creek bed with a 3-wine barrel fountain! I do a lot of research on flowers on the Internet and this web site keeps popping up, so I decided to finally join! My favorite flowers are coneflowers - love them. They are just starting to bloom in my garden now and I planted 8 different kinds this spring, so am anxious to see them all! I have found gardening to be a lot of work, but I absolutely LOVE IT! My 9-year-old will come out when I'm watering, which I have had to do on a daily basis this year, and ask if he can do that for me - I always tell him "This is MINE!" I look forward to sharing and getting lots of ideas from you all!

We're SO glad you finally joined us!!! I really think you'll like it here, we're all a friendly bunch!
Welcome to the forum! What does your hubby think of your new hobby??? When I started gardening my hubby thought it was nice...now he's losing more and more grass to my flowerbeds....

That sounds really neat! Maybe you could post some pictures of it so we can all see!
Welcome to the forum! It's nice to meet you and I love coneflowers too! They have become one of my favorite flowers and I just added 'Fatal Attraction' this year. I'll look forward to seeing you on some of the forums.
I live in the midwest and know a lot of farmers, so my thoughts and prayers are with any farmers who are suffering through this heat wave and drought. Has this been a problem for you in ND?
Have a beautiful day!

My husband is glad I've found something I like to do that doesn't involve doing for others! We live on a big farm, so the less grass to mow, the better! My dry creek bed - I'll take pictures soon and figure out how to attach the pictures.
Patches - yes, it has been terribly dry. Last year we only got 60% of our crops planted because it rained and rained and rained, then this year we couldn't get a rain for all the prayers in the world! Finally got an inch the last 3 days, felt sooooo good!

Well, it seems like it's always feast or famine. We had more rain than we could handle in the spring and I wish we could get a little bit of it now.
