We recently bought a house in Houston that has an incredible garden (the entire back yard is a garden--it looks like an episode of "BackYard Habitat"), but I have never been able to locate my green thumb. I have no idea what most of the plants are and I am just hoping I don't kill them, let alone allow them to thrive. I am pretty overwhelmed with this garden because while the house was for sale, some of the garden lapsed a little (one plant was dead when we moved in--I have no idea what kind of plant it is or why it died) and I don't even know where to start.

On the positive side, I have gone through the list of plants on this site and identified several of them, but there are many more to go. I hope you will all be able to help me become the competent gardener I would like to become.

As for me personally, I am married with five children and I just finished my master's degree. Like Franny above, I also teach writing and when I'm not attempting to garden, I enjoy reading and writing.

Thanks in advance for all of your help and encouragement.

Kim
