Hello to all. I am trying to grow gardenias (One favorite!) in the desert. I planted both in late March. I have one that is doing well. It already gave me two beautiful blooms. The other has leaves that are turning yellow. It is in more direct sunlight, but I give it more water to compensate. Could I be giving the plant too much water? or do I just need to move it to a more shady area? Please help! I also grow roses and daisies (My other favorite!). I might attempt to put in some honeysuckle and lilacs against the back wall. I need to see if it too late this year or not. Just moved to a new house and it needs a more beautiful flower filled garden!! Please help! I appreciate every little tidbit!!

Hello Neighbor. I'm a little east of you towards Cajon Pass. Gardenias are tricky here. I have tried them in several different places with varying amounts of shade/sun. I have lost some and some are living but without flowering well. And two have found a happy place with a little more than 50% shade. And lots of water. They need acid food too.
I hope you have a lot of success. And welcome to the forums.
