Hi everyone, my name is Jim. Been gardening for around 15 years, but the last few have been trying to re-learn everything. My wife (Barbara) and I moved from Montebello, CA (zone 9) to our present location in Pahrump, NV. 60 mi. nw of Vegas. (zone 8) We've got 1 acre (going to need more seeds and soil) and draw water from our own well. Since killing most of our indoor and ourdoor potted plants, I tested our water, and it comes out of the ground at 8.2 to 8.3 ph. This is a problem that is compounded by the fact that it freezes in the winter, and gets to 110 degrees daily in the summer. Have tried various methods to lower the alk. ie: sulphur (not good in potted plants) lemon juice and vinegar didn't help...but am now using phosphoric acid. It's a pain in the derriere to use, (spilled a teaspoon-full in our dirt, I think it's still bubbling) but hasn't killed or maimed any plants yet. ...oops... Meant to just say hi. Hope to learn bunches and bunches...Jim
ps...no indoor growing forums? I usually start everything indoors to give our babies a head-start, was thinking of getting another light and keeping everything indoors.
