Hello everyone. I am very happy to have found this forum, and am impressed to see that there are even some international members. I will be interested to see how folks garden in other places.
I call myself "Homestead" because I believe that is what I have achieved. Simple life, simple needs, for the most part met by my own work and a job I work away from home. Like so many others, hoping someday soon to make it permanently at home.
My interests are expanding as I grow older. At one time I grew strictly vegetables and fruits--what sense, I thought, growing something one can't eat? Then I expanded, but only to the prettiest of flowers; roses, orchids, the more lush perennials. Now I am learning about the joys of the simpler annuals, too, like the lowly marigold and zinnia. Also learned from some mistakes, such as not planting bamboo somewhere you decide to later plant something else, and that some plants can indeed come back full grown from just a bit of root.
Right now, I have so many garden projects going it isn't funny. I have literally dozens of plants in containers that I need to arrange artfully around my back porch deck and the gate entrance to my front door, and not a clue as how to design it. Wish I could take pictures and get advice.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy, productive and joyous weekend.
