I am 25 years old and a novice gardner. I am only able to have house plants right now. My parents have a very large Snowball bush that we plan on pruning after it flowers. I bought a book "Tennessee Gardners Guide" that told me that. But it also says to remove "water sprouts". What in the world are water sprouts? I tried Googling it but I came up with stuff about the oceans. I have also started a pretty pathetic herb garden. Any tips on growing herbs?

Welcome to the forums. I can't help with the herbs but someone will be along who can. Watersprouts aka suckers are the ground level branches (or underground) that can ruin the visual affect of the plant. They often grow differently than the rest of the plant; often won't bloom, etc. I hope this helps.

Thankyou that does help. After I told my mother what you said she goes "we haven't had any" of course her snowball bush also blooms twice a year without pruning. I'm told that's quite unusual.
Welcome to the Forum! Glad to have you aboard and you're going to love being here.
