I'm a Brit who lives in chilly Yorkshire, and a very keen gardener. I'd love to try plants I see on the Internet, and a lot of the sites I visit give the US Hardness Zone number, but I can't find anything that relates the zones to growing conditions in the UK. Can anyone help? We have frosts from September to May and live about 1.000 feet above sea level.

Hi mazda [wavey]
I'm from England too. Welcome to the forum. Nice to meet you. I had this problem when I first joined. But someone posted a Europe growing zone. Maybe one of the hostess's on the forum has one? [dunno]

That puts me in zone 8 - now I can check the plants they say grow well against some I know grow well here and confirm whether it fits. If it doesn't I'll just go down or up one. Thank you so very much Princessazla & Weezie - this hardiness zone business has been puzzling me for a while. I'm so glad I found this forum.

Thanks also to Triss for the welcome.
