This is a topic to introduce myself. Hello! [wavey] I don't have much experience in gardening yet so I joined this forum. I hope you don't get tired of me if (you think) I ask too many questions. I live in Southern California and would prefer plants that are low maintenance (at least to begin my gardening experience.)
About my front yard: I got an "ice cream tree" from one of my college professors and planted it in the ground today but am unsure of how to care for it as I could not find much information on the internet about how to grow one. (I did find some sites though that called it the ice cream bean tree.) The professor did give me some instructions but I just want some outside advice to make sure I know how to care for the tree properly. (Should I ask this question on another forum?)

Hey...we love questions! [grin]
I ask more than I answer, but there are so many members here that answer my questions pretty fast!

Scroll down on the Main Forum Page and pick the forum that most corresponds to the question. (The Shrubs and Trees forum maybe...) Someone will answer your question!

Nice to meet you!

Jumpybean,

Welcome to The Gardener's Forum from another California gardener.

Info about Inga edulis here.

and here.

Fruit is a long pod, sometimes a few feet in length, containing a bright-white pulp surrounding several large seeds. Flavor is sweet and resembles vanilla ice cream.

Thank you again for the replies and sites. I'll water the tree at least once a week? or maybe 3-5 times a week according to one of the sites. The tree could do well here, I think. It gets some hours of full sun at noon (which does get me a bit worried about it drying out). It probably would be more suited to tropical climates than weather in California, though.
