I went to the local garden center today. They had some stuff out but for the amount of space they have I can't understand why the just grow a lot of a few things. I would love to give them a list of the types of plants I want so that they would add them to their inventory. But then I would feel bad because you know I'll try them from seed before I'll actually buy them as starter plants at 4.75 per plant. I did give them my e-mail address so they could tell me when they have chocolate mint in. They had some today but it was on it's last leg and that really wasn't good enough. Someday when I have magic garden fingers like other members who can do plant rescue I'll be able to buy those kinds of plants but not yet. Boy was that a run on sentence or what? lol. I just get so excited and it's like I can't get the words out fast enough.

Anyway, should I let them know that there selection is alittle sparse? Or should I just be glad we have a garden center on the bus route.

Well they may have started out small and increase as the season progresses, but it doesn't hurt to mention you would like to see more in their garden center.

When the nurseries don't have a plant I want, I call them the next day and ask if they have it. Many times they will say they will be getting some in a couple of weeks and to check back. Lo and behold, they do end up getting some, but I think they might have placed the order after I called. [flower]

Seems like so many of the garden centers only have a limited inventory of plants that aren't that exciting. Basic stuff.

A lot of the times for the fancier stuff I'll go to the nursery 40 minutes away...It's huge and they have everything you could ever think of there.

But it's not cheap...but then again a lot of the times you are paying for the plant quality...So many of the garden center plants look terrible.

I don't think asking them would hurt Tammy, but I wouldn't be surprised if you just keep seeing the same old, same old.

I wonder if they would buy the exotics from me if I grew them lol. Maybe that's the way I should phrase it. That might get their competitive juices going. I'm so bad.

I've been meaning to get at this post...

Tammy, I'd go talk to them..

And if they can carry some of your wants,
I bet they would...
but they might be able to explain certain one's wouldn't sell, or they are unable to get ahold of,
or they might explain, why something might not be sellable...

and one place may only be into basic perennials,
some may want to get into new avenue's...
but you won't know, unless you talk with an owner..

Let [gabby] us know if you do, and how it works [dunno] out.. [thumb] [flower] [flower] [flower]

Tk I've asked them many times for particular plants at my nursery here if it early enough in the season to inform Their provider then chances are it will happen,, This fall I asked them to try to bring in something I wanted for the spring they told me again to remind them in Dec, so it would have time to arrive in March when they get spring and summer houseplants in . It never hurts to ask My nursery told me if enough people ask for something they don't normally carry or only order a small quanity it's because the previous season it didn't sell well,, Heck that's all they needed to tell me!, friends started making calls for me asking for the same plant so now at least they feel there will be a better sale and they would bring more in more then 6. [lala] Even if I need to buy more than one that would be fine as well. [thumb] [flower] Like my Uncle brought me sheep manure from KS bagged in TX, I called the CO, I called the local feed and grain store and next week they are going to deliver to the feed and grain Seems to be good business if enough people are requesting the same product why not have it available especially at the prime time of year to stock it.. everyone benefits.
I just know it never hurts to inquire!

Tammy I have been told by Callaways Nursery,Home Depot as well as Wal-Mart if I wanted a certain plant let them know what it is and they will try and get it. I ask for Crown of Thorns awhile back as I couldn't find any today Carolyn @ Wal-Mart called and let me know they got in 500 and she set one back for me. The photo is now posted in Tina's succulent and Cactus forum. By the time I got there they had sold all but this one I had people offer to buy it from me. Carolyn said they will order more if so I may buy another one.
