This makes a charming,inexpensive gift...

Into a small (snack size) Ziplock bag, put...

a bandaid
a cotton ball
a piece of string
a Tootsie Roll
a piece of gum
2 pennies
a paperclip
a lollipop
a safety pin

Then type up this note:

When in doubt or when a problem arises, reach for your Survival Kit.

A lollipop to help you lick your problems
A rubber band to help you be flexible
A paper clip to help you hold things together
A Tootsie roll to help you roll with the punches
Gum to help you stick-to-it
A pin to help you pin point the real trouble
String to help you tie up loose ends
A band-aid to bind up your wounds
A cotton ball to put in your ears when you can't hear yourself think.
And, pennies so you have enough sense to realize what a valuable assest you are.

here's one that I found a while back:

Everyday Life Survival Kit

Toothpick: Pick the good qualities in everyone including yourself.

Rubber band: Be flexible. Things might not always go the way you want.

Band-Aid: To heal hurt feelings, either yours or someone else's.

Eraser: Everyone makes mistakes. That's okay, we learn by our mistakes.

Candy Kiss: Everyone needs a hug or a compliment everyday.

Mint: You are worth a mint to your family and friends.

Bubble Gum: Stick with it and you can accomplish anything.

Pencil: List your blessings every day.

Tea bag: Relax daily and go over your list of blessings.

Hmmm ... I think you guys are a great untapped resource!

Did anyone check out my Vegas Survival Kit post? I could use your ideas! (I don't want to get in trouble by posting the same things in different forums [angel] !)

The only thing I think I would add is some Duct Tape to the survival kit. So that you can fix it if it needs fixing because if duct tape can't fix it, nothing can! LOL Well that or superglue. There's an old saying in my mom's family. If it moves and shouldn't duct tape it (dad's family says superglue it) if it should move and doesn't use DW-40 !
