It is supposed to be a bad day Saturday for more fires.

The BurnBan in Oklahoma has been extended to Charcoal grills and outdoor Welding as well.

I have most of the ground around the house watered now, and will continue to water everyday for a while.

I have a disabled wife and am not sure she could get out in time.

Here's a picture from Thursday afternoon taken facing east from the house. The previous pictures of smoke were facing west, on Saturday.
 -
This fire was believed to be arson...several smaller fires popped up within a few miles yseterday...very suspicious.
My DSL provider was down all day yesterday...I don't know if that had anything to do with fires.
There were at least 5 fires in central Oklhoma Thurs.

All's well this morning, and the fire danger is "lessened" thanks to lower wind and temps.
Tomorrows fire danger will be "critical" again, High 74, winds 35mph.

We got to 83 Thursday wind werer gusting to 50 at times. Low last night was 50 Weesie,Lynne,Merme I think that is probably your high's for this time of year. Usually while we seldom get winters like north of here I can't remember a winter this warm. When we lived in Oklahoma we had hard winters and we used to have winters here but now it just seems to go from hot to unbearable anymore. Even the desert area's are coole rthen we are. Winds are supposed to lay later today but up again tomorrow anykind of outdoor fire (BBWQ etc) is now banned here. Arsons are setting fires also caught teens setting them yesterday.

Yes. That was apparently a fire that was about 15 miles from here...as it turned out, at about the same time, some IDIOT was setting fires about 3 or 4 miles from here DIRECTLY upwind of our property. Luckily, it was near two small lakes, and the residents helped considerably with garden hoses, etc. I never saw the smoke from those...when the firefighters were responding to the first fire, they got the calls for the other 2, that's why they're sure they were set intentionally.
Going outside now to run several sprinklers...high today expected to be 78, winds gusting to 30 or more...weatherman says this is the worst potential for fires so far, and the IDIOTS will all be off work. What do you bet some folks decide to burn their trash? [Frown]

Quick update...here's how bad it is...
There's a television briefing right now addressing conditions. Any ember that gets loose has an 80% chance of igniting a fire. Once a fire starts, it will travel 200 to 900 feet per minute, with an average speed of 500 feet, or roughly 1 and 1/2 football fields length per minute. Conditions are NOT expected to diminish after sunset, as winds are not expected to drop until tomorrow. [Frown]

If a fire gets started, it's going to move too fast to deal with solely at the last minute. I have 2 sprinklers running right now, and I don't intend to turn them off until I have a firebreak of several hundred feet around our house. [thumb] I can't believe I haven't been doing this right along.

That fire is knocked down said on news this morning it was arson. Hope the throw the book at these fools I just can't believe people will set fires as dry as everything is. I now carry a camera everywhere I go if I see someone even looks like he is starting a fire I will get a photograph while I call the police. That way they can prove or disprove in court they were setting fires.

Incredible, Jimmy. Car lots on fire?
They're saying today's fire risk will be less than yesterday. We lucked out yesterday with few fires in the state and none got too out of control. Today's risk level is EXTREME, down form yesterday's CRITICAL. Some consolation, huh? High will be 75, wind 25 mph. Since we dodged the bullet yesterday, I have a feeling we're gonna get it today. Our weather is same as yours for today but our fire alerts have gone up. The Auto Auction I was drving for was supposed to have cars burning at it. I will go by after work today and see it is just across the tracks from Jefferson St. where the fires were shown on ABC local station last night. If that is true Cox Enterprize will be in a world of hurt replacing those cars value to the owners. A lot of dealers store their cars there so as no to have over crowded lots. I wish they could catch those arsons. Fort Worth Stock show will start around the 20th normally rains that two weeks here's hoping. [thumb] [Big Grin]

Well, I was wrong about yesterday. Never saw anything about how extensive the fires were yesterday, not on this morning's news, either, but I just heard on the radio that there were 20 fires statewide, and one out west that burned over 1,000 acres. You know things are bad when none of this was newsworthy!

Jimmy, or anyone else, have you heard any news about fires in Oklahoma today? As usual, our local stations aren't breaking in with anything, and all I can find on CNN, FOX, etc. is warnings.
I guess as long as I don't see smoke, we're not in immediate danger.

dave tried to google it all they have today looks like is about the miners , Sharon and the pilgrimage to mecca. Guess we don't count today as news. Just when everything else fails to get ratings.

NBC just had almost a minute on the Nightly news got home too late for local. I know I will not trust another thing our local ABC station puts out. After work I went by last nights fire in GrandPrairie burned almost 50 acres looked more like a controlled fire to me. An old wooden building was not burned although the grass grew right up next to it. Th Auction they said had cars burning did not. Now tell me why the polcie blcoked off the eastern third of town for an almost 50 acre square makes for news I guess but doen't make a lick of sense to me. But do know will not believe anything this station says again.
