Sheri in September we got less than a 1/4 inch. Since then almost a trace after Thanksgiving. That lake we use to fish off those banks I walked a good 20 foot out into the lake all was dry. Those cattails used to be 10 foot from the bank . I was standing on the end of the concrete boat dock. Would have gotten more but batteries gave out on camera. Jimmy

They have been hauling them in all day! They even had to go to the same place TWICE for fireworks! Every time the fireworks land...there ya go, another fire out of control! I have never seen contitions quite like this...

Here in Oklahoma it isn't any better, We have had grass fires on both sides of town but not in town yet. The volunteer Fire department has had a real workout here.
Governor. Henry was ordered a burn ban for the whole state, but he said that new years fireworks would be up to the local fire chiefs.
We haven't had any rain since Oct 1st, and are about 14" down for the year. Went out and watered today, my poor outside plants don't know it's winter.

Here's the view from my front yard today in good ole Pink, Oklahoma...
That was around 2 to 3 o'clock, we first saw the smoke about 11:00. that fire raged for at least 4 hours...we first thought that it was within a mile or so of the house, but it was actually more like 5 miles away. It was like a war zone all afternoon, with Chinook helicopters in the distance carrying huge buckets of water, and sirens roaring by on the highway.

City of Colleyville has offerd a rebate on water for people to keep thier lawns and yards wet. And we have a drastic water shortage. Texas Panhandle and New Mexico are having wild fires. Saw where they have them in Logan New Mexico that is where my mother is in a rest home. Just talked to my Niece there she said the fires are contained and they are in not danger. Texas and Oklahoma have lost a lot of small towns and untold acres of farm and ranch land. so far have not heard of any deaths since last week. Wind has changed from that south wind we have had for over a week to a north wind which is not much help. Will keep you posted as things develope. Jimmy

Got your pm Jimmy, all's well at our house. I wish I could say the same for all the people who lost their homes last night. A cold front moved through last night and brought temps down and humidity up, a key factor to the success of the firemen. Lower danger today, but back to mid 70's tomorrrow and 40 mph wind.

It was fairly uneventful here yesterday as wind was less than predicted, but not so lucky today. They say there were 7 major fires in Oklahoma today, although the wind was nowhere near as strong as first predicted. Some empty buildings burned, I haven't seen enough news to know the details, but it sounds like we all got really lucky, as far as it goes.

We also have them going around here again wind has picked back up several hot spots flaring back up next calm day is supposed to be Friday high winds and warm weather low humidity otherwise. National gaurd helping as fire fighters from NC got here today. They showed one fire truck from a volunteer unit was a 1961 seats had no covering on them truck should not even be on the roads but I know from experience how hard it is for the volunteer's to scrape enough together for turnout gear let alone trucks. In Odessa the city and county refused to budget us so we did all out of donations. Everyone would say you volunteers out here begging again don't bother us but let their house catch fire where is the fire dept.? Excuse me but you said we are not needed and refused to put us in the budget. When anyone needed help the volunteers are there first almost every time. Jimmy

I live a corner of a county with 3 other counties just a few miles away. It is sad when you can't help your neighbor.
I bought one of those oscillating water sprinklers last night and have started watering the grass around the house.
I figure if I can water 20 to 25 feet of the grass all the way around the house, maybe if we get a fire here it will bypass us and move on.
