Hi all. My name is Dan and the #1 weeder is Susan who is also #1 wife (there is no #2). We live in the land of pine, oak and white sand so gardening can be.... well, sandy. We have found some solutions to our problems and seek solutions for problems yet unsolved. We are both looking forward to what this site can offer and to what we can offer to this site. See ya soon, Dan and Susan

Welcome Dan and Susan!
I've been out your way - to Point Pleasant a few times each of the past few summers. I can imagine the challenge of gardening in sand, but I'm sure you will find lots of help here in the forums.

What sorts of things do you like to grow?

Hello!
We are kind of going through gardening withdrawl this summer because we put a moritorium on buying plants because both of our kids are getting married. Plants are much more fun than wedding budgeting.

We have several different gardens in which we are trying for different effects. Perenials are 97% of our plants. First and foremost anything in the front yard which is unfenced must be deer resistant. We have black eyed susans, echinacea, cranesbill geraniums, lavender, hyssop, catmint to name a few. We just disassembled one garden and planted hydrangea and verbena hoping these will do better than it has in the past. Beside gardening in sand we also have a whole lot of shade.

In the back where we are fenced in, we have more options. Hostas for shady areas, violets and other deer candy plants are possible. We have some clematis, and honeysuckle and our vegetable garden, which was awful this year. We are not sure why but we will spend the winter figuring it out.

We have a pond in the backyard, about 3,000 gallons and we have finally figured out after 3 years how to keep it biologically balanced. We offer free advice but do not accept responsibility.

We have been seed gathering and separating and taking cutiing to keep our plant jones going. We would love anay info on offered on this front. We hope to put alot of this new knowledge into our newest project which is a one acre woods we have purchased adjacent to our home.

Finally, we did build a barn 4 years ago, on owr own, 24' x 32'. And can offer advice on this front as well.

So long for now. Susan and Dan
