I didn't think they would still have them out now that easter is over! and I really didn't know they would be marked down to a dollar! I'm going to walmart tomorrow so i'll have to check that out!! and pheonix people have said different things about it being edible. Some say it is and some say that it isn't. me personally? I would not eat it. I've read that it's got a bitter taste to it.

ok - this is my second attempt at writing this - the first time was lost when I entered it!
WOW!!! I cannot believe how many posts there are on this topic!
I am happy to report that the seeds that were questionable from last year's plant are now starting to germinate! I planted some on the top of the soil of the plant I was able to overwinter, and this morning I was pleasantly surprised to find that about 5-6 seeds have popped their bright green heads out of the soil!
Now, if I can only keep Salem away from this pot, all will be well. I don't have anymore window space in rooms where I can close the doors, and yesterday she got into a few trays of 4 inch seedlings while chasing a yellow jack in the window, and knocked the peat pellets out and onto the floor, breaking several of the 4 inch high seedling stems of my cardinal flower vines - they were already on to their 2nd true leaves too! She is definitely in the doghouse now!
How are everyone else's wonder eggs doing? Can't wait to see everyone's pictures...

Yep, like Lynne said they take a few weeks to pop up--I checked mine all the time before they sprouted and I was beginning to wonder if they were duds.....they're getting taller now but seem to be pretty slow growing, but they look healthy.
And my walmart has the egg kits for 2 for 5 dollars now on clearnace......not as good as a buck, but better than paying full price.

well, as of last night, mine were still doing squat. then.... this morning, i go out to get something out of the car, and WOW a set of leaves. only one set, and not "true" leaves, but that jiffy pellet had been sitting there, in my starting tray for weeks! in fact, i gave up on the original seeds i put in it and put some more so now, i don't know which set is the set that germinatied! but, if i get one plant out of it, i'll be happy. so now, i have most of what i have planted up and running.

I HAVE PROGRESS!!!yay!!!! I took a peek-a-boo at them earlier and only 1 of them is barely popping up outta the soil!! thank goodness! I have 5 little peat pellets that I got at big lots (these are a bit smaller than the regular ones) so I'm REALLY glad one's coming up!

OK - since my questionable seeds from last year have had a high germination rate , I do have some that I can spare. There are probably enough seeds for maybe 8 packs of more than you got in the wonder egg at WalMart - I could probably do about 15 seeds in each.
If anyone is interested in doing a SASE with bubble wrap for these, or if you have some seeds to trade for them, please PM me.

wow that's a great offer! I might have to take you up on it if (knock on wood) these that I have now don't do anything. they seem to be doing ok right now atleast one of them does anyway but for some odd reason when I looked earlier at it I saw that the sprout was up and outta the soil (finally!!) and the seed is for some reason up on top of the sprout? where the leaves are supposed to open?? what should I do just pick the seed off or just leave it alone? does anybody know why it did that?
What you are seeing is the seed SHELL. I would leave it alone - it will fall off by itself as the plant grows. I have this on all my seedlings, and am always tempted to pull it off, but experience has taught me that sometimes you also pull the entire seedling out of the soil, or worse yet, sometimes the top of the seedling breaks off.

I thought I was in the clear.. but I put them out today for thier daily dose of sun & breeze, and of course, it was only in the 40's. They were only out there a couple of hours when kiddo stated it was starting to rain some, & also, the wind blew the door open. Soooooo, I am thinking, gosh, I better bring them in before they blow away..
They didn't like the chilly temps. They shriveled up.

Lynne, thank you.. I may take you up on that.
Weezie, I know. They weren't even out that long today. They've been enjoying thier daily dose of fresh air & sunshine.. but there's a bit TOO MUCH COLD AIR & not enough sunshine today I guess. *sigh* So far, I brought them in earlier today, and put all my plants back under thier lamps.. and seem to be responding. The leaves are still a bit curled on the ends.. but they are standing up again.

wow that's great that they are back up! ok gang let's cross everything and hope that they make it through this time and meg! don't ever do that again to them babies! lol

hi everybody! I've had 3 more sprouts since the last time I posted on this topic so I'm doing very well right now :-) so now I have 4 sprouts! on the tops of 3 of them the shells from the seeds but hopefully they'll be ok! so how are everybody else's doing?
We got an extra Jiffy Pot too, so one egg has 3 Jiffy Pots in it and one only has two...
And I went and bought some other Jiffy Pots and put the other seeds in those, couldn't bring myself to be double planting the seeds and then having to snip one if they do sprout!!!
5~14 days to wait now.. Oh Geeeesh, the suspense is already k*llin' me...

So glad to hear that everyone's seedlings are coming along nicely now!
Definitely grow them outdoors in full sun, once they are established, but be sure to acclimate them to the sun slowly first - a few hours for the first few days, with indirect sun the rest of the day. They need the full sun for the flowers to grow.
Have fun! Lynne

I like to EVER-SO-CAREFULLY peel the mesh away from the pellet. I find that the roots can expand better when not bound by the mesh which never really seems to disintegrate. Some people say that by peeling it away you are disturbing the roots, but I haven't had that happen.

yeap i'd say that it's time to transplant it lol but what i'd do is when transplanting it try to be careful and take the mesh plastic thingy from around it because it may smother it or strangle the plant that's a great idea to give them to people for mother's day

Got the first real set of leaves on mine today.
The other day I finally decided to pinch off the second larger plant that was growing right next to the largest one. Well, I wanted to see what would happen if I kept what I pinched off in a small container of water...maybe it would grow roots?? So, I filled a shot glass half full of water and stuck it in there. Today I looked at it....its still alive...and it looks like there are 2 tiny roots growing out of the bottom of the stem!! Cool! My first......ummm.....transplant!

the one that I pinched off and stuck in the shot glass looks better than the one that I left to grow in the jiffy pot. It isn't shribbling up, but its not standing up straight....it looks tired! It just got it's 3rd new leaf.....it's about 2 inches tall....is it time to plant into a pot with some miracle grow, do you think????? Help!! Quick!!
