Hello folks

Things have been full speed ahead over here - the unit changed homes - and with the move internet capabilities. We're supposedly back in civilization - the PX is here, a number of "American" fast food joints (Burger King, Popeyes Chicken, Pizza Hut, Cinnabon) but - - internet is in the dumpster. Accessible from the office - extremely site limited - cannot open this site for example - 3/4 of the time, cannot open up hotmail, 30% of the time our regular military email accounts don't care to open - at least not quickly (and by quickly I mean we get excited if it opens in 5 minutes. Out of the office - the "internet cafe" I've seen it take 30 minutes to transmit a single email - I know you'll find it hard to believe, but it is true.

On the other hand - believe it or not - - one can get on AOL or Yahoo messenger at the internet cafe (not at the office!) and be zipping right along like one was back in the states.

Where I am and what I'm doing the scariest thing is nothing - - I'm in the middle of one of the largest bases here - - just making sure that communications is working to the best I can for the rest of the unit. The worst situation - was a mortar that hit in the PX area - just outside the phone center when I was talking to my wife. Thankfully - the bad guys forgot to set it to go boom - so it hit the ground with a big thud - - and sat there until EOD took care of it.

For any of you down in LA and the surrounding area - you've been in our prayers a whole lot.

Take care - and I'll try to check in more often.

Jon

Thank you for being over there doing what you are doing, and to all of your fellow military friends too.

Hello all you happy folks with good soil under the fingernails ---- looks at mine, sniffs -- nope ain't soil yet [Frown]

Was told today, I might get to go home in Nov - rather than waiting for March for a 2 week visit. Will know more later as Nov gets here.

Things are going pretty well over- - couple of weeks and the people here get to vote on their constitution -- hopefully that will be an even better turn out than in Jan - and the constitution gets approved by an extremely large margin - anything less feeds the foreigners who are keeping us here (and I don't mean US or Britain or ...)

The wife tells me that what I planted before I left made it She took pics to show me when I get home. Other than the family - gardening is probably the one thing I really miss over here.
