I'm a Norwegian who found my soulmate in St. Augustine, FL and moved to the US 8 years ago. Since plants have been my passion since I started walking, I naturally started digging in sandy, humid and hot St. Augustine, FL. Gosh.. Have I struggled. I never knew tomatoes were that hard to grow! *lol* Add to that enemy critters eating my plants, - and invation of some really nasty grashoppers, locally known as ludders... Ack! Our lawn had been breeding ground for grubs for several years. I started a 4 year long chain of "transplanting" grass and fighting the grubs. I think I've won! The prize of gardening in FL are plentiful, though. Hibiscus smiling to you year around, stunning azaleas in February, exotic fruits.
Then after 7 years we decided that we'd like to spend a whole year in our mountain hideaway in the Smoky mountains, NC. A lot more familiar climate for this stranded viking. But, - so over grown and so VERY steep!. I started last October to create a rock garden down below our house. The plans were modest, but the garden sorta grew on me. I now have lotsa beds that needs to be planted. I have carried more rocks than I've done in my whole life, and I have cut down more trees and bushes then I ever did as a girl scout.
Here is the status one month ago.. I need to take more pictures, as my transplanted lillies now are looking around with buds. And the bulbs that I bought also looks up. Anyways... here is my North Carolina garden project:

Welcome Britt! I just love the Smokies! I've been camping at 5 of the campgrounds in the National park including Balsam Mountain and Cataloochee near Maggie Valley.
I was once at the NC Botanical gardens about 20 years ago and just yesterday was in Greensboro at the Bicentennial and Bog gardens as well as the Greensboro Arboretum.

Well, then you've practically been in my back yard. I'm on the mountain next to Catalochee! Building a garden at 4500 ft is challenging, but a lot of fun!
