Some people considering this plain plaguarizing but it isn't - it's an old form of poetry where you create a poem by using the lines of something already published - something famous, like a famous poem, or part of or a song.

It's fun to do and can get your poetry muse started . . .

I have done (and published) a couple of gloss. But for this purpose I'll start a new one - you might like to follow it along.

---------------

If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
and make allowance for their doubting too . . .

Rudyard Kipling - IF (first four lines)

IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR HEAD WHEN ALL ABOUT YOU

are in an uproar about one thing or another and

ARE LOSING THEIRS AND BLAMING IT ON YOU.

IF YOU CAN TRUST YOURSELF WHEN ALL MEN DOUBT YOU,

think you're up to something dishonest, but just the same you can politely go along with it

AND MAKE ALLOWANCE FOR THEIR DOUBTING TOO.

...........

Well, it isn't really a good poem, but that's the gist of it.

TRY SOMETHING ELSE?

MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB

she got it at a yard sale and

ITS FLEECE WAS WHITE AS SNOW.

She took it home and her mother let her keep it

AND EVERYWHERE THAT MARY WENT THE LAMB WAS SURE TO GO . . .

...............

Try following this along - you can come up with some interesting lines - what I've done here is nonsense - I don't really mean to make it poetry.

I'll have a look for some of my gloss.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
Gentle guide in the darkness--
How I wonder what you are.

Heavenly jewel within a fortress
Up above the world so high,
My enamoring mystery,
Like a diamond in the sky.

One constant in my world, you
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
and dance beside the moon...
How I wonder what you are!
