I need to ship something that needs to stay cold, but not frozen. It will probably take 3 days to get to where its going. Anyone know how I can do this??? Ice packs maybe?? Help!

I'd say wrap it in a dishtowel or several layers of crinkled newspaper and put in in a thick cardboard package with the ice packs and as much insulating material as you can. You could probably contact UPS or the Post Office or whoever you're shipping with, and they may have specific instructions.

Isn't there a way to use dry ice for shipping? I don't have a clue but seems like I have heard of using dry ice for cold items. But...I think Pepper is correct in contacting the Postal service or UPS to see what they would recomend...let us know whet you find out Jenn...

Post office is closed for the week, so I'll have to go in and ask on Monday. I think I'll probably just use ice packs because I don't feel like going out and finding dry ice....it requires a trip into the city and I REALLY don't feel like dealing with that right after this snow that we got...its the pits driving in the city after snow!

I have shipped cold/frozen items before with dry ice just wrap in newpaper then bubble paper and then I 'box' that in with styrofoam left over from a tv box etc.. and pack that in a box full of peanuts all that styrofoam acts as insulation with this cold weather It'll stay cold I've done this in spring and summers and my Daughter says it's always still frozen (dough) and I get the dry ice at wally world or Kroger grocery store fairly cheap it's the 3 day shipping that kills ya! Yep, I would have said dry~ice too..
The ice packs seem like they'd perspire
as they are melting and get a bit soggy..
But, maybe the newspaper would absorb the moisture...

Dry ice will definitely freeze it. There's no way, no matter how well you insulate it that the dry ice wouldn't end up freezing it...solid! What is it your mailing? Can it be frozen? My dad manages a dry ice plant...this is why I know a little about dry ice....exciting hey? [perplexed]
It's a 110 degrees below 0..it will freeze whiskey solid! Mmm...whiskey popsicles? [thinker]

Man, I could tell you a story about some dry ice..
but I won't...

I do know that if dry ice stuck to your skin
you wouldn't have any left and they'd have to take you to the hospitol to pull it off....

BTW..you can't send dry ice through the mail. It's classified as a dangerous good. But that's in Canada, not sure about the States.

I think it has to be packed in special packaging...like heavy brown paper bag like material.. and the guys I knew that worked with
it, had to use leather gloves to handle it...

I brought a little home from the ice plant and used it for my pumpkin at Halloween. The trick-or-treaters loved it! Cool huh?

Jenn when I worked at Wal-Mart Mail Service Pharmacy. We shipped Insulin in insolated Ice packs to Alaska and had very few freeze. We also sent other liquids to NY and other Northern states like that with good results. You might see if a pharmacy in your area has any of these and if they will let you have some of sell you some of them.

Jenn, just use the ice packs but put them in a zip lock baggy, maybe thet will keep the rest of the package from getting soggy...
The post office may have a special wax treated box just for that purpose. I just thought about the wax coated boxes that the chicken plant uses to ship frozen chickens in...the boxes never get soggy and break down. I use to go get them to store stuff in they are the best boxes!!!
