Surely we have at least one member who has the set of Little house books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, What I need is the reference or excerpt from the book she wrote of her Husbands childhood, "Farmer Boy" That tells of him raising a "milk Fed" Pumpkin and winning the county fair. My Pumpkin buddies are squabbling over the Prospect of "milk Feeding" and apparently, few READ [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I can't read, but I remember many years ago when we were growing big pumpkins, we put a stem in a bowl of milk so the plant could drink it. (Actually, I think it was buttermilk.)

Is this what "milk feeding" is?
Does it work?
(Our dogs kept drinking the buttermilk.)

I've heard of that procedure,
but not first hand knowledge.

Something on HGTV I think I remember seeing a
special on the HUGE PUMPKINS show.

My wife just read me parts of that story this morning. It's from "Farmer Boy", chapter 17, titled "Summer-Time."

"Farmer Boy" is the story of Almanzo, Laura's eventualy husband.

A great story!
