I made some potpourri from centerpieces at my cousin's daughter's wedding last fall. The flowers dried beautifully and I have enough to make a nice bowl for both the mother and the bride.

My question is: what scent would you use that's not too overbearing that most people would like? I don't know their preferences, and I really don't want to ask them, as it is a surprise gift.

Anyone have a good idea? Thanks!

Most everyone loves rose, it is soft & subtle...I use gardenia often too. Sounds like a beautiful gift you are making them [Smile]

Lynne,

That is such a thoughtful idea! What flowers were in the centerpeices?

I don't know much about essential oils, but there are so many it will be hard to choose. What i would choose, if the scent was available would be a carnation scent.

Let us know what you decide! Also, how are you going to present it to them? What sort of container will you use? Can you make one for them?

Depending on what kind of fragrance do you want? Fruity or sweet? Spicy? When you decide which fragrance you want in order to mantain its fragrance you first need to get some orris root pwder or ground and add your oils to it. Let the roots have a chance to obsorb it before you add it to the flowers. This helps maintain the fragrance. Allspice buds, cinnimon barks broken up, dried orange peels, cloves etc all add to the fragance and look. [flower]
