When going through my grandparents things my cousin came upon an old mule collar that my grandfather used on his 2 white mules (Jack and Jake). I would like to make a mule collar mirror out of it [nutz] but have no idea how to? Where to get the mirror material? How to attach to collar?

The collar was pressure washed about 6 months ago and was also wondering what to liven up the collar with....some kind of oil or ????????

Then how do I attach it to the wall????

Before my grandparents passed away I took a video of my grandfather talking about the good old hard working farm days and he was just thrilled and tickled when speaking of these 2 mules....I also have an old black and white pix of the 2 animals and would like to do something with it and place it near the mirror when complete!!! Want to do this mirror etc. up right so it will be something to eventually hand down. [Love]

Welcome as many ideas as you can give me!!!!

hey catlover, this is what i know:

one of the restaurants we frequent has horse collar mirrors and this is how they did it.

first they went to a glazer (any good window/glass company with approximate dimentions (i would "draw" it out on a brown paper bag or other sturdy paper) and get a mirror cut and edged. i have had them done for about $12-$15, if the size is such that you can use scrap that the glazer has on hand.

then, they got molding for the "frame" doesn't have to be much to it. then they pasted it all together (not sure how they did that) and then hung it on the wall. looks really cool.

I'd use neatsfoot oil on the collar, if it's leather....same stuff you'd use on yer baseball mitt.... [grin]
