my favorite good deal (lately) has to be the shoes i got for my daughter's wedding. i needed a pair of bone or eggshell pumps, and oh a fluke (at walmart of course) i saw a pair, my size. i thought they were just on a "rollback" price of 8+change, but when i got them to the register, they were on sale for $3! boy was i happy!!

Jiffy, that is so great when things ring up for less than what they are supposed to be....woo-hoo, I love that!!!!!! I have more clothes than a normal woman should ever have.....but, I get most of them off the walmart 3 dollar clearance rack....they have a rack like that a lot....and the stuff on there isn't all bad stuff....I don't care about name brands that much so I love it....My hubby says clearance is my fav. word.... Cause I don't really like to buy anything unless it's at least that! I am a real bargain hunter - some call me frugal, some call me cheap, but I love the hunt and can get some really good deals! I don't settle for crummy merchandise - just always keep an eye open for a good price. [thumb]

Wow! Now this is the topic... I don't know about you but my delima is tall size clothes. My 16 year old son is 6'2 and wears a 13 shoe! I can't afford to purchase him any thing unless it is on clearance or ebay. Even ebay can go sky high! He always seems to find shoes that "everyone is wearing!" on sale for $90.00 bucks! well I tell him Every one can't afford shoes like that.. Maybe we should see how much the box cost! [Big Grin] Needless to say, the humor went no further. I did find him a shirt from Lands End no less on clearance for $4.00 bucks! I was so excited.. I want my boys to dress great but I have no money tree in the back yard! The same thing with plus size clothes.. My husband swears I have an affair with "Clearance" [Big Grin]
And I am the coupon queen around here.. Just some of Lifes Survival ways..

My son also wears a size 13 shoe... but he is only 5'7"!!! We have big feet in our family - my daughter and I are only 5'1" and we both wear a size 8.

I always teased my son when he went to sleep-away camp, and asked him if they asked him to dock his shoes down at the lake! [Big Grin] [dunno] [Embarrassed]

OOOHHHHH Lynne,
I know what you are talking about! My son has wore a 13 shoe since he was in 8th grade. He just started growning in height this year since school started! Maybe it is all the additives and preservatives in the food now days! [Big Grin]
How do you get the "in-Style" shoes and clothes for your son???? I just can't afford it.

My son started with that size too around 8th grade! But he'll be 21 soon and won't be growing in height anymore, sad to say...

He's very anti - stylish, so he mostly wears sneakers and boots. The most difficult shoes are dress-up, and we had a lot of fancy parties to go to this past year - what a pain that was!

Hey Lynne....
I have a son that is 21 and he is 6'4 and also wears a 13 shoe. But he is military as well so I don't worry about dressing him any more..Thank Goodness! He is on his own. But my 16 year old is very stylish and popular and center of attention. Makes it difficult. Thank Goodness I sew! [clappy]

My 13 year old daughter thinks she's Queen Diva - and is quite the clothes horse!!! [nutz] [Razz] [dunno]
Going to the mall, or any store with her for that matter, is always a treat! NOT!!! [Frown] [shocked] [Eek!]

She knows I won't buy her the big name brands, but I will pay for part of the item if she wants to contribute the rest. She has a few of these pieces , but complains that she has nothing to wear each morning before school, when her drawers are soooooo stuffed with clothes that she cannot open/close them! [nutz]

Hey, you guys, here's a trick that still works...especially if your kids don't mind mildly "vintage" stuff...been doing it for decades..

Find the thrift store that's located nearest the ritziest-snitziest neighborhood in your area....

I can't believe the stuff that's cast off as unwanted....New things!....Current things!!! Ah, the children of the rich view everything as instantly disposable....shop there, and your kids will only be a few moments behind the trends.. [thumb] ...for pennies.. [Wink]

Jillie,
I think that would be a good ideal. I do shop thrift stores, ebay, epier and yahoo auctions all. He is not to snooty to wear second hand clothes. He knows military makes no money so we live very tight! He does work and pay his own insurance and car payment. His car is not what the kids would say is cool. But he only gave $450.00 for it you know. I think he is a good kid for only 16!

Hey, I go into the thrift stores to buy books and let me tell you as I've walked by the clothes to get to the books I've been astonished at some of the nice clothes they have in there....

I gave them my prom dress, and I saw it in their front window for about 70 bucks.....lol The thing is we got it on clearance, it was beautiful but we only paid about 40 for it new.... [Big Grin]

That is the thing... IF it is a thrift store in the richer part of town... Just like some yard sales... they want to much for the clothes. When you get to large sizes or tall sizes they are far and in between. They are always the ones to go first!

I have such a hard time being tall....I'm almost 5'11"......it's so hard to find pants that are long enough, most of the time even the tall pants, aren't tall enough for me....it drives me nuts......plus my brother is 6'4", and my sister is 5'10"......it's hard to find clothes for them at xmas....especially my brother, he isn't big....just tall, but he has to buy 2 or 3x just for the length of the sleeves to be right.....

All of us tall kids from my mom and dad [Big Grin] It's funny, I'm taller than mom, and practically taller than dad....we're like the amazon children..... [Razz]

The only benefit to being tall is you can eat more and it spreads itself out.....now that I like....

I found a good bargain....I got a 72 cell seed starter kit with the greenhouse cover and tray for underneath it for 3 bucks.....They had them at another store for 6 bucks....it isn't a big difference, but I love a good deal.... [thumb]

Laura, what is it with pants getting shorter?? I think the mfg's are trying to save a nickle. I'm on the short side: 5'4"...and I used to need to cut & hem EVERY pair of pants I bought.. Now, all of the stuff I buy just barely breaks over my instep...What's with that? [dunno]
'course....maybe I'm getting wider and it's taking up the slack..... [Razz]

I would love to go into a store and find a pair of pants that I didn't have to cut off at least 6 inches of before wearing them - my daughter too!

We could never wear bell bottoms - because we lose the whole bell by the time we're done!!! [Eek!] [tears] [nutz] Even in petite sizes - which are usually "Old lady" clothes anyway... [Mad]

Have you seen the new style jeans
that have the spandex in them?
I can get them at Wally~World for about
$15.00..................
Or they are on both the QVC and HSN, for
a tad bit more + s&h, I've never got them there.

But they are great, come in petit, and big sizes
and the extra length is there on the bottom,
but never bothered me, they look ok on top of
a shoe or boot....

Talk about a great fit, I love them..

Weezie, I found jeans today that fit great!!!! Got them at wally world for 22 bucks....they are even levis!!!! Who knew WW had levis??LOL They are tall, low rise, boot cut jeans with stretch.....they are perfect....I'm so happy....They are super long.....probably because the waist is so low, but I don't care, I love them.....yippee......

We have tons of them around...not sure about Hollywood! You can do a Walmart search and see where the closest one is to you. Don't expect the garden dept. people to know ANYTHING about plants.

You two are too much! I started seeing the store mentioned as Wally World because some websites don't allow you to put actual store names - they don't allow any advertising or slamming on the sites. So people got used to the nick-names. [thumb]

I originally started calling it Wally~World because it was trying to find the prices on anything was like finding WALDO, or where's Waldo.

My sister~in~law took me to that store, say about 9 years ago for the first time, oooh~ooh, I saw some neat things, and it seemed like everything I picked up there were no markings for the price or where it sat on the shelf....It was quite frustrating...

And you don't want to hear the rest of my tale..
Loz and I have had many conversations on that store. We both miss AMES!!!!

And DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE GARDEN SECTION AT OUR LOCAL WALLY~WORLD! [Mad] [Frown] [tongue] [Razz] [Razz]
What a JOKE! And with the Ames gone, they've got pretty much free reign with prices!!!

Do you easterns have a Kohl's yet....it is kinda like a Mervyn's but better prices. They are always having sales....and if you know a senior citizen take them on their day and get an extra 10% off. Sometimes they have 50%-60% off and clearance stuff is 70% off. Plus if you apply for a card the first purchase is another 10% off. Karen,
That's like how Ames was,
10% senior discount all day Tuesday!.
And sales, red and green tags, up to 75% off
then the 10% discount tooooooooo..
Mother and I used to go alot.
When they would change seasonal items,
She'd just about clear the rack.
But you couldn't go wrong, nice,
brand new items for $1.75....couldn't beat it!
She'd buy stuff for my oldest, and he'd have things to grow into....they've all been hand~me~downs now to the wee~one, but,
the shame of it is, when we stopped
buying from there, the oldest has now
run out of clothes!!! [Eek!] [tears]

I really like Value City and Ollies, and Gabriel Brothers.....any of you hear of those????? And Big Lots too.......Our mall is putting a super wallyworld in there, I'm disgusted....we don't need another stupid WW....I wanted a target or TJ maxx....or something different.....

Last year I literally walked around the garden section in walmart deadheading plants....nobody takes care of them, half the time you go to buy them and they are dying.....or I have watched them water the flowers outside in the full heat of the sun before.....they should all go to gardening school to learn what to do.....makes me MAD [Mad] The inadequate plant care is what has made me decide to start some seeds....at least I'll know they'll be taken care of.....

Boy, did I miss a bunch a posts!

Walmart! Hoooo, yeah! They're everywhere...had one close to the house in Oceanside... & Weez, you're right about trying to find the prices on merchandise...

A new, big Target is under construction down on Santa Monica Blvd...almost in my neighborhood. Used to have to drive to the Valley to find one.
Ah LOVES Target! [thumb]

We have 2 Tar~Jays within 10 minutes of each other here!!! Guess where I was at 5:15a.m. on Black Friday this past Nov?!? LOL!!! [Big Grin]

We are also inundated with Kohl's!!! There is a Kohl's store here within 20 minutes of each other in any direction, and then some!!! It was great when I was doing my daughter's bat mitzvah last year - got the kids' placecard holders at them - went from one to the next to the next, til I ended up with the 45 that I needed! All in a days work! [thumb] They were cute springy butterflies that were picture holders, but worked out wonderfully for placecards, and then as a favor to take home for pictures!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE Kohl's! I also got most of my holiday gifts there, and even got a free $15 certificate for myself just for being one of the first 500 to arrive one day! [clappy] [thumb] [Cool]

We have a Kohl's not too far away and after that rave review, I really must get over there.

I don't care if it's the fanciest fashion store or the lowliest yard sale. I'm there, looking for that bargain.

I love all the talk about the comfortable stretch jeans. Is there anyone else here that use to laugh with your friends and say you'd rather die then wear stretch pants and now thats all your waist wants to wear.Just one of the million times
I've had to eat my own words.

LOL, shamarian!!!!

YES! And, ya know what's even worse? Looking at those kids with the saggy jeans riding off of their butts. And the low riser pants?

"Whhhhy, in myyyyyyy day kids wore their jeans, skin tight, they way they ought! Those whippersnappers!" [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

In my days....the *fashion savy 80's*, kids KNEW how to wear clothes....tight=right! LOL!!!!!

Want to know about my horrible day??? I was doing my hair and saw.....was that a silver hair in my hair. No, it can't be.....it WAS!!!! [Eek!]

Off to the hair stylist,
Barbara
