We're not one of the permanent families, but we've done it twice during sweeps week. They sent us a little booklet where we filled out what we watched for one week, and they enclosed cash, like 7 bucks or something. It was kind of fun.

They're gonna freak when they see my responses. What's a 47 year old woman doing, watching Ellen Degeneres, then changes it to Teletubbies, then to the news channel, then to SpongeBob.....
They didn't have a section for parrots that watch cartoons. Lola has her own T.V., but when she's in the room with me I have to keep changing my T.V. to cartoons for her.

That's funny Cindy. Does she sing the theme to Spongebob? Sammy (my cockatiel) can kinda whistle the Ed Edd & Eddy theme. (I really hate that show!) He's funny when it comes on, starts whistling like crazy..lol.
(I like Ellen's show way better than The View! Those ladies drive me nuts!)

I've done the Neilson T.V. ratings in the past,right now I'm in a year long Neilson study on Internet surfing. I have also done the Radio one(can't remember the name). I belong to quite a few Survey/Product testing panels and get paid to do surveys and receive free stuff in the mail to test. I have tested dryer sheets,rice,tupperware,gardening tools,seeds,insect repellant,sunscreen,etc.
I am also doing a year long political study that I will be paid $50.00 for and it only takes 5 minutes every week!

When we first got to LA, we worked on a pilot that featured Star Jones. IMO, she is NOT a nice lady. Have never been able to watch anything with her on it since.

Yes, of all the ones that show, Star Jones strikes me as being a nasty person. She just doesn't come across friendly to me at all. All snooty, uppity, & she just gets on my nerves big time.

Do they just pick people randomly for the Nielson ratings? Or is there some special way to get picked? I'd love to do something like that.
I watch the View because I like Elizabeth the young one.....but Star Jones does seem to me like she'd be one heck of a handful. And I like Ellen a lot better....I've always thought she was great.

Loz...they kept calling, and I would tell them I wasn't here. Finally, I said "Yes...this is Cindy..." So, they ask me if they can ask a few questions...will "just take a minute of your time". I said no, if they were REALLY Nielson Ratings they could send something and I'd consider it. I didn't think they would!
But, they did.....
My week to keep a diary of all my TV viewing started yesterday.....
I filled the little book out like they instructed.....
But, I can't see me doing this for a whole WEEK!

I just always assumed they put something (black box!) on your T.V.
Didn't know I would actually have to fill out a form for each show I watched!

Heck you know what I thought? I thought the cable companies just somehow monitored what you watched on TV, that they could tell what channels you were watching....... I never knew that you had to fill out papers for a week.....but I think I'd like to do it! I'm a flipper though, so my list would be quite interesting....

I think if you're a regular Nielson family, they DO just put a black box on your TV. We have no idea how we got picked to do it either, but both times were during sweeps weeks, so I think maybe they want more data during sweeps, so they just send out those booklets.

If you go to their website and click on the FAQ section, it tells you how the select people. Its totally by chance when they call you and then they do send envelopes out to random people also. So, I guess I just need to wait until their computer randomly generates my phone number!
