Hi! I'm pretty new here, though I've been writing to one of the other members off and on, as we're both working on the same garden idea. My biggest interest is roses, of which I probably have over 100 by now. We built our house four years ago, and there was no landscaping at all, which has been a lot of fun, but it's hard to make sure and keep the beds that are now in weeded and taken care of, when there are so many possibilities for new beds!! My biggest problem areas right now are fuschias and african violets. I sort of gave up on the AV's, at least for the summer, but I've been really trying with the fuschias, and am not sure what is the problem. I water, I fertilize, I rotate, etc., etc., etc!!! But they're still puny, almost dead looking things. Bleah! Oh well..... Anyhow, it's nice to find this site!!!!

I have found that Fuscias really like a climate that is not above 70 degrees. Also, I would recommend that you use a fertilizer that contains Blood Meal. Seems that most flowering plants really thrive on this. If you could also include Alfalfa meal, I really believe you will have great results.
Hope this helps. My friend gave me Fuscia plants two years in a row. They thrived for a month or so, then the Oklahoma Heat came, and, well that is the end of the story. California climate is the best!!
Kindest Regards, Karen
