Looks like a Salvia to me... but i guess my eyes are going too cuz looks blurry to me as well lol.

I think it might be some sort of delphinium. At least, I had one once that looked just like this, and the tag SAID it was a delphinium. But when I google search, the pix I get don't look like this.
Carly- is the flower kinda shiny in the light? Like, it is just almost iridescent? Let us know if you find out for sure.
Or maybe Arctostaphylos would know? He/she seems to be pretty expert.

It's a salvia, same one I picked up at wal mart, it said annual on the tag.

I can't remember the excat name but I know that's what I got because I rarely buy plants and I got those for a container, some blue ones and some red ones
Deep violet-blue flower has a combination of blue and grayish-white flowers. Excellent for borders or mass plantings. Garden height 18-20" tall.
and I got S. splendens 'Vista' Red
Dark, strong red. Heat-tolerant. Well branched plants, deep green foliage and very dense florets. Garden height 12-14" tall.
