Yeah, the close-up I did was a little too close, I guess.

Here's the original picture I took - it's probably better than the one I've adjusted . . .

I think it might be some sort of delphinium. At least, I had one once that looked just like this, and the tag SAID it was a delphinium. But when I google search, the pix I get don't look like this.

Carly- is the flower kinda shiny in the light? Like, it is just almost iridescent? Let us know if you find out for sure.

Or maybe Arctostaphylos would know? He/she seems to be pretty expert.

No, I didn't see that it was shiny or iridescent. It was just purple flowers.

ooops I mean a blue something. *L*

I can't remember the excat name but I know that's what I got because I rarely buy plants and I got those for a container, some blue ones and some red ones

Looks like it was
http://www.american-farms.com/text_plant_pages/salvia.htm

S. farinacea 'Victoria'

Deep violet-blue flower has a combination of blue and grayish-white flowers. Excellent for borders or mass plantings. Garden height 18-20" tall.

and I got
S. splendens 'Vista' Red

Dark, strong red. Heat-tolerant. Well branched plants, deep green foliage and very dense florets. Garden height 12-14" tall.

to go with it

Very close match - the leaves on the one I have in the picture are more narrow though.
