I've had this plant for 6 years and it has finally bloomed. I know it's from California and that it started from seed and it's possibly a type of Iris, but that's where my knowledge stops. Can anyone tell me what exactly this is?
what flower is this?

Wow, Papito, You're great. CMD is my sister, so I have been searching for this. Never came accross "Fairy Iris." Figured it was a wild iris though. She has had it indoors. Now we know she can put it outside. Thanks, [kissies]

Kathy,
You are welcome.

You had me worried for a while, I thought you changed your screen name to CMD, but the Webshots are under Largelady. Now, I know.

Here's something you might want to see also.

WOW...I must say you guys are great. Thanks everyone, especialy Kathy for hosting the photo for me. Since I live in NE PA I was afraid to plant this outside. Now I know I can without killing it. It will look nice mixed in with my bearded Iris'.

I believe this is also called an African Iris and Fortnight Lily.
