i don't think so. it occured to me, after i posted the picture, that i should have included more details. first of all, the leaf parts that are joined on the lady fern, are seperate on this one. they are almost like small individual leaves on the branches of each frond. almost remenisceint of a memosa.
each frond is about 18-24 inches tall and it doesn't drape at all. it has to be one of the most upright ferns i have ever seen. the width of each frond is 5-8 inches at the widest part. I will take a better picture tomorrow, with some kind of measurement scale included.

Can you get a close up of a leaf? What sort of conditions--It looks like it's in the woods, but is it on a dry slope or near a stream. . .?

on closer inspection, it may well be a lady fern. i tried for a closer pic today, but didn't get it to turn out right. it is in an area with very good drainage, close to the top of a gentle slope in the middle of a stand of pine trees. the pines were planted when this land was a tree farm.
