I just loved Fred - yeah, I know I already said that. But seeing Fred makes me want to get some ferns - maybe next year.
I wouldn't mind getting some ferns for our apartment but our cat Skitter is still under the impression that plants are her toys - I know she'll grow out of that eventually. I'll put some of my kalanchoe in the window this year and see if she minds her own biz. I kept my plants in the office (and they did well there, I might say). So I'll split them up this year.
Thanks again for sharing Fred with us.

Carly, thank you!! I have really enjoyed these ferns!
I also had another type of fern sprout between the other two...the new one I'm sure of, it's an autumn fern...as for the 'fred' type, I have seen some good possibilities and some of the local garden centers, I just can't currently remember the names!
Papito...after looking up the DRYOPTERIS specie, I'm certain it is one of those, jsut not which one. Thank you!!!

We have this fern on the sides of our house. The get really REALLY big...like 4-5 feet tall sometimes and they multiply like rabbits!!! They also separate pretty well as long as you don't do it in extremem heat (like I did this year). When they start to come up, you don't realize how big the monster is going to be....right??? I did know the name of it when we moved in, but I can't remember....sorry about that. But know that you are not the only person with Fred's relatives in their yard!!
