I cannot find the name of this plant in
any garden book or on any web site I have checked. We thought it was a
Philodendron, but after checking all the pix for those, I see it is not. It
is doing a strange flowering thing. The pod opened and the flower stuck out
for a day or two. Then it closed back up around the flower & slowly sealed
itself with goo! I'm thinking it will open again & look different. I have
never known a flower to do that! I would love to read more about it when I
know what it is!
Thanx for any help any of you can give me!

Here's another one. I used to have a philodendron that flowered like this. It was a very old, HUGE plant!

Thank you very much for the quick response & lovely pictures. Can you believe I visited several Philodendron sites and no one had any pictures or acknowledgement of this plant. Now my only question is: will this sealed flower pod reopen?

If the flower got pollinated while it was open, it is now in the process of creating a large, pulpy, seedy fruit. As it ripens, the "pod" will reopen.
