I was working on a barn one day for someone i know and after i was finished he gave me some flowers, bushes, and seed pods from his garden (he had many unusual plants). One plant in particular caught my eye... He called it "Cock's Cone". Has anyone ever heard of it? It has an unusual flower that is pink and looks exactly like the cone of a rooster! He plucked off a few flower heads for me and i dried them out and I now have plenty of seed.I would like to have a few in my garden, but I've looked thru all my books but i can't find anything about this particular flower. What kind of soil does it prefer? Does it prefer full sun? His plants were doing quite well even though i think he neglected them. I'm just curious about Cock's Cone. Marketman25@aol.com

Another name for Cock's Comb is Celosia. Here is what Park Seed Catalog has to say about growing them: "Sow seeds directly into the ground when the soil warms in spring, or start indoors 4 weeks before last anticipated frost date. Best performance is in full sun and rich, well-drained soil, however, super-adaptable Celosia also thrives in poor, dry soil, tolerating excessive heat very well. Blooms last until frost." Hope this helps you enjoy them!
