Definately want bell peppers. This may seem like a dumb Q, but I am new to veggie gardens. Are yellow, red and green bell peppers from the same plant? Any tips that will make me successful with them? I want lots, like 10 a week at least! Especially red and yellow ones. Thanks!

I love growing Bell Peppers cuz they come in just about every color you can imagine, & look so awesome in the garden! Last year I bought plants that would produce yellow, green & purple peppers... but one was mismarked, so I ended up with yellow, red & purple! (Each color comes from a different plant.)
There are lots of people here who are pepper lovers, so I'm sure you'll have plenty of help as you get started, & throughout the growing season. I hope you have a lot of garden space if you want to harvest 10 peppers each week! Each plant needs about a foot of space to spread out in, & if I remember right, I got 3 - 5 peppers at a time off most of my plants. You're going to love veggie gardening... it's VERY addictive!

I'll just plant 3 or 4 plants then, I have a lot of people at work that want peppers. But if they need too much space, I'll have to disapoint a few people. I can't devote my entire yard to peppers! Thanks so much. I appreciate the advise. I want yellow and red peppers mostly. I eat 'em like candy but they are 99 cents each at the store!

Johanna, Some folks don't realize that peppers will produce all the way till frost. I think OK gets pretty hot like we do down here in MS. My peppers will shut down while it's real hot but then start producing again when it begins to cool off toward late summer early fall.

I've never gotten peppers to produce well. Do they need a special soil mix or any kind of special care that I'm missing. Also my plants aren't bushy. Should I be pinching them back when they are young so they bush out more?

The bell Pepper I grow (California Wonder Bell Pepper) turn green and when fully ripe turn red. But Bell peppers do come in all colors. Peppers are about 90% water...So in the hottest part of the summer they do require lots of water and will keep producing through the hottest months if watered well. As far as any special requirements, I don't do any thing special for mine, I don't pinch them or fertilize them. I do plant them close together, about 1' apart. In my opinion peppers are one of the easiest things to grow!!!

That's interesting. I may have to save my licorice basil and direct seed it next to the bell peppers. I really like bell peppers but they sure are expensive.

TK, by licorice basil do you mean the one named "cinnamon basil" but smells just like licorice? That's the one I have, and I don't understand why it's called cinnamon basil !
